Surge of the federated

This Week in F-Droid

TWIF curated on Thursday, 19 Jun 2025, Week 25

Community News

ArcaneChat was updated to 1.58.5 and looks like the Delta Chat ecosystem got a surge of users in the last month.

@Poussinou crowdfunds hard:

Framasoft, the makers of PeerTube, just finished a successful fundraiser to make the app better. Read all the details here.

Thore Göbel fights the keepers of gates:

The Swiss site Woz covered “digital economics” in an article covering F-Droid, the origins of Free Software and the Fediverse rise. If you read this TWIF the information might be short and old for you, but the 10 minutes read might make it a great introduction for your less tech-savvy friends. (Remember that Fennec has offline, private, translations support, if you can’t read German)

Vishal looks at auroras:

Aurora Store was updated to 4.7.2 and fixes a number of crashes and bugs. It also now implements the newer version of API to search and install apps. Notable changes:

  • Switch to new APIs for searching and installing apps
  • Search filter is no longer available, will be added back later
  • Fix crash on navigating to app details page
  • Fix crash on spoofing locale
  • Translation updates

We also got feedback that the app works better on Waydroid, so that might be great news for your non-Android devices too.
