This Week in F-Droid

TWIF curated on Thursday, 05 Jun 2025, Week 23

F-Droid core

Latest Client has been out for the last 2 weeks. How does it feel? Modernity at its highest? A good start? Not expressive enough? Still rocking? We are open to all comments and critiques, specially those that come with a stack-trace.

Not have it yet? Still looking like it’s 2016? We can help! In F-Droid Client or Basic, on its own page, either scroll down, expand Versions and install the latest, or in the upper right menu choose “Allow Beta updates”. We are waiting for more feedback to deem this version stable and push it to everyone.

We haven’t talked about the website lately, it’s low profile as usual, we’ve fixed some bugs and there’s work in progress to modernize its infrastructure. What can be seen are the new translations, so if your native language is Basque or Catalan, or you just like them, you can now select them in the language selector and enjoy the text.

Community News

Dolphin Emulator was updated to 2503a with plenty of new features and improvements. The dev post has all the details if you have 25 mins to spare. Whoa 2506a is out? We’re on it!

Element X - Secure Chat & Call was updated to 25.05.4 for arm64, and as previously discussed, we applied some hacks to hopefully fix the encountered issues.

Expression Evaluator was updated to 1.2 after 10 years as the developer is back and modernizing the code-base. No new features yet, but maintenance is always welcomed.

Zimly S3 Backup was updated to 3.0.0 and @espen-j, the developer, dropped by to tell us what’s new

I’m excited to announce Zimly 3.x — a major release shaped by user feedback!

  • Restore and Download from S3: You can now restore and download media and documents from S3. This enables not only restoring data, but also continuous synchronization of shared data across your devices.
  • Configuration Wizard: To support the added functionality without sacrificing ease of use, there’s now a new configuration wizard, designed to be simple, intuitive, and clear.

@shuvashish76 makes a time leap:

Back in April 17 we mentioned the “Open Letter to Organic Maps Shareholders” and there were some updates to this story. As time passed and things didn’t move fast enough for the letter authors, the community thought more about forking, hence CoMaps was born. They’ve already setup governance and FAQ docs to establish how the project will develop and we are working with the team for inclusion in F-Droid as you read this.
