A new Android version is out, and we got a little report about it and its interaction with F-Droid Client, and Basic. Since Android 14 Google limited how old can installable apps be and while we adapted the code to match and block older ones, looks like the newer, faster, Android release cycle caught up with us. A fix is already deployed waiting for the next 1.23.1, so until then, if you want to install an app on your Android 16 device and it fails “due to an unknown error”, don’t worry, it’s just a bug, find a newer app instead.
Categories explosion finally slowed down. A couple of them will drop in the next cycle or two, but we are reaching perfection in finer grained categories, right? We are also reaching page height limits due to their number, but that’s another UX story.
Speaking of UX, by the next TWIF categories backgrounds will be gone. This interesting feature looked nice and made F-Droid Client have a certain expressiveness, at least back in the UX rewrite of 2015. Ten years later, only F-Droid Client, and Basic, actually showed them and maybe one more 3-rd party repository even bothered to add actual pics for their own custom categories. Rendering bugs aside, given the new expanded categories, having personalized pics for each one would be a lot of work so, for now, we decided to remove them altogether. Each category still has a fairly unique colored background, but we will see what the future holds regarding unique graphic backgrounds.

BoB was updated to 1.3.2 and suffered through the pains of a key change. If you did not install the app this week, you might want to uninstall the old one and reinstall.
